  • WHC to host CHL Komets Pro Camp

    Fort Wayne, IN Date: 08/07/2011
Pro Camp at WHC: The Fort Wayne Komets of the Central Hockey League (CHL) will conduct a tryout camp in conjunction the World Hockey Centre in early August.

Al Sims, former NHL player and Head Coach, will be entering his 9th season behind the Komets bench, and has forged an agreement with WHC President Bob Russell that will see the team hold a free agent Pro-camp in early August, open to players from anywhere in the world. In addition, Sims will look to Mr. Russell, a former Edmonton Oiler, along with Bradford Rattlers' Head Coach Johan Lundskog, to expand their scouting staff, keeping an eye on talent, through the annual World Hockey Centre In-Residence summer camps.

The Pro camp will take place from Sunday, August 7th through Saturday, August 13 as part of the WHC's summer program, but players are encouraged to register for the camp 1-2 weeks prior to best prepare for the rigorous test of a pro hockey tryout camp. Participants will live 'in-residence' at the WHC in Shelburne, ON for the week, and registration includes accommodation, meals, and transportation to and from arena facilities. Players are responsible for their own transportation to and from the WHC at the start and the end of the week. For further information, please call Bob Russell directly at the WHC office.

Mr. Sims is extremely excited to have the opportunity to get a look at the large number of international players, along with those from the U.S. and Canada, that the WHC attracts on a yearly basis.

    A typical week at WHC:

    • 13 hours of on-ice skill development
    • 2 games (3x20min w/floods, refs, stats, music, announcer)
